Singer Waltteri Torikka will perform at the opening ceremony for the Good Holiday Spirit collection at Helsinki Central Station on Thursday morning. He is looking forward to the performance, albeit as an opera singer he is not used to warming up his voice before 7 in the morning.
– For me, this is all about doing good, says Waltteri Torikka.
The popular opera singer was already scheduled to sing at the traditional event three years ago, but was unfortunately stuck at the airport and could not make it.
Now, he is enthusiastic about the performance.
– It’s great to be able to make it this year. I hope I have better karma now, he says and laughs.
Performing at the Central Station is not his typical gig. Usually, opera singers perform in the evening, but now Torikka has promised to sing as early as seven in the morning to the commuters passing through the station.
– This is a rare occurrence for me. I am a bit anxious, because I don’t know how I will sound at that hour, he says with a twinkle in his eye.
Finding joy in the little things in the spirit of Christmas
Waltteri Torikka says that his Christmases have been quiet, even simple, since childhood. He values people, spending time together and good food the most.
– Traditional Christmas-time casseroles are important to me. And herring is a must.
Torikka’s new album ‘Sydämeni Joulu’, his first Christmas album, is going to be released this Friday. He promises to perform the new single, ‘Kylmään sydämeen’, along with traditional favourites.
Waltteri Torikka will perform at the opening ceremony for the Good Holiday Spirit collection at Helsinki Central Station at 7 a.m. on Thursday 22 November. The performance will be available live on Yle’s morning programme Aamu-tv.
